Vivian Udunze a 26-year-old student of Guidance and Counseling at the University of Lagos, in an interview shared by Punch, reveals how medical negligence resulted in her becoming blind.

Vivian disclosed that she was born with her eyes working fine, however, when she was 6 years old, she fell ill and was diagnosed with malaria. She said her father took her to a clinic owned by a nurse who began to administer medication to her

She said every time the nurse gave her drugs to swallow, her eyes would hurt a lot and she would also feel excruciating pains all over her body. She added that whenever her parents complained to the nurse about the side effects of the drugs on her, the nurse would tell them to continue giving her the drugs

According to Vivian, as she continued taking the drugs her vision began to deteriorate until she eventually became blind. She said even after she became blind, the nurse continued to give her the same drugs until her parents decided to take her to a General Hospital where one Dr. Oluyemi carried out some tests on her and discovered that she had Steven Johnson Syndrome

She said Dr. Oluyemi also suspected that her condition was worsened by constant taking of expired drugs and he told her parents to discontinue whatever drugs they used to give.

Vivian said when it was eventually confirmed that the drugs which the nurse used to give her were four years past their expiration date, her father moved to sue the clinic but on getting there he discovered that the nurse had closed the property and fled the country
